Our school

Yowah is a very special place for many people who have taken the time to travel out of their way to visit this unique opal mining town. The population of Yowah varies throughout the year as does our school population. In the summer our population drops to approximately 100 people and many of these permanent residents go to cooler locations for their annual holidays during the heat of the summer. After the heat of the summer, people start to return and in the winter months, there can be approximately 200 - 250 people in town. Some come in search of opal, some for the lifestyle and some come to escape the bitter cold in the southern states.

Our primary focus at our school is reading, writing and numeracy skills. We provide feedback to the students and parents on the progress of their children on a weekly basis. Our school has recently introduced a music and instrumental program that students love. We have a lot of pride in our school, with our core values being:

P - Passion for learning

R - Respect

I - Individuality

D - Discipline

E - Excellence

To help us choose behaviour consistent with these values, we have these school rules:

Be safe.

Be respectful.

Be responsible.

Be positive (no put downs).

Give it your best shot.
